KEN SMITH WORKSHOP
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE URBANISM ART
Relics/Prosthetics/Surrogate Spaces  University of Virginia Completion Date: 1999 School of Architecture, University of Virginia, client Ken Smith, photography This installation explores the idea of borrowed scenery by creating a landscape, which is separated via an open construction wall so that the landscape can only be experienced visually and not physically. The first borrowed scene is a large skateboard ramp that alters the interior space. The second borrowed scenes are photographs of landscapes, which are viewed through lighted lens attached to the wall. In both cases the viewer is mentally engaged in a landscape that is physically removed.
